Kingdom Hearts 3 has been one of the most anticipated games for over a decade now and the wait is finally approaching an end it appears. After a tease of a new trailer just prior to E3 last month that a new world reveal was coming at D23, we got not only that in a new trailer, but a release announcement as well.
D23 is currently going on this weekend, where Disney is showcasing many of its upcoming properties from not only the live action and animated side, but also gaming. A special gaming showcase was held this afternoon that started off with information on Star Wars Battlefront II and the upcoming Spider-Man for PS4.
What everyone was most excited for came last though, as Square Enix delivered as promised a brand new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3.
In this trailer, we see the brand new world that’s coming to Kingdom Hearts 3, which is based off of the Toy Story franchise. Unlike most Disney-based worlds in the past, this one is going to be utilizing an original story not based on the movies.
The story involves the disappearance of Andy and the other toys, so Sora, Donald, and Goofy in their toy forms team up with Andy’s toys to find him.
Part of this world takes place in somewhere new known as Galaxy Toys, which almost looks like a take off of Al’s Toy Barn from Toy Story 2. In this area, you can take control of toy robots to fight with, which really looks like a lot of fun.
The last piece of information from the trailer that might be the most exciting of all is a release year, as it was revealed that Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming in 2018. The game could of course be delayed like we saw with Final Fantasy XV, but we’re really hoping that pans out.
