Kingdom Hearts 3 has been one of the most anticipated games for years now, with fans waiting since 2005 for the conclusion of the trilogy. After many years of side games on handhelds, Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally set to arrive this year and a new trailer has now confirmed a brand new Pixar world and reaffirmed the 2018 release date.
We had hoped that we’d see more of Kingdom Hearts 3 at the D23 Japan event for the series and they certainly delivered. This mostly came via the above trailer that left us with lots of new information.
First of all, the trailer confirmed the leak from awhile back of a Monsters, Inc. world in the game, which looks great so far. Like we’ve seen in special worlds in the past, Sora, Donald, and Goofy take on special monster forms in this world. We see the main characters of Mike, Sully, and Boo here as well, leaving us wanting even more.
The trailer also reveals the return of Marluxia, which is kind of surprising considering we figured he would be in his somebody form instead at this point. Time travel was introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance though, so it probably plays into that.
We also see Vanitas return from Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, who we thought to be dead. The idea of Vanitas was great, so it’s really good to see him back yet again.
Lastly, the trailer states Kingdom Hearts 3 is still set to arrive sometime in 2018. There was a rumor that started to circulate that said a final release date would be announced at E3, but that turned out to not be true. It’s likely though we’ll get one at E3 at the latest, with it possible they could announce one sooner as well.
